INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE OF ONCE THERE WAS A SEA… AT PRESTIGEOUS FESTIVAL

Animated documentary by Joanna Kozuch Once There Was a Sea… will be presented to audiences abroad after its Slovak screening. It will have its international premiere at the prestigious short film festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France, which will take place from 28 January to 5 February 2022.

Once There Was a Sea… is the story of the Aral Sea, the fourth largest lake in the world. Its tragedy began with the idea of building cotton plantations near it. In anticipation of “white gold”, a system of irrigation canals was built. The rivers lost power, the Aral Sea began to dry up. Fishermen lost their jobs, factories tied to fishing went out of business. Even the research station for the development of biological weapons, located on one of the islands, disappeared because the islands no longer exist. Only the desert continues to grow and become bigger and bigger. And dry salt crystals are glistening on the original seabed.
