The Czech-Slovak-Polish-Romanian co-production film Forest Killer, directed by Radim Špaček, will be presented to Slovak audience in theatrical distribution after its successful world premiere at the festival in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The minimalist crime drama follows the last year of the life of one of the most famous Czech serial killer Viktor Kalivoda. In 2005, he murdered three random passers-by in the woods. The Forest Killer, as he is nicknamed, worked as a policeman, won the show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. The case received a lot of attention not only because he planned to shoot up the Prague metro, but also because he never fully revealed his motive. The film is based on true events.

The film is brought to Slovak cinemas by Forum Film.

Michaela Mihályi’s upcoming animated film Period Drama will be presented in January at the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival at the Euroconnection, which showcases the best shorts from individual countries suitable for co-production.

Period Drama is a short animated film composed of four chapters, with plot points referencing the biological events that occur during the phases of the menstrual cycle. Menstruation connects the vignettes like a secret thread. Through the humorous gaze of a character, the film analyses menstruation’s essential and often baffling presence in life. While commenting on adolescence, gender politics, sexuality, motherhood and Orlando Bloom, she takes us on a surreal trip that begins with her first period and continues as she, much like an egg, matures.

After its world premiere at the Berlinale in 2019, the Czech-Slovak-Polish co-production The Kite by Martin Smatana was presented at more than 110 festivals around the world, including the most important animation film festivals in Annecy, Zagreb, Ottawa and Stuttgart. It also won the Slovak National Award for the Best Animated film.

At the beginning of 2024 it will be presented at the renowned Rotterdam International Film Festival, in the Kids & Family section. In addition to this, films from the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain and Argentina will also be presented in this section for audiences aged 8-12.

The screening is scheduled for 28.1.2024 at 10:00 in the Pathé 7 cinema.

Our animated documentary by Joanna Kozuch Once There Was a Sea…  will after a successful international premiere in Clermont-Ferrand in France, where it won the Student Jury Prize, was presented at many prestigious international film festivals around the world where it was also awarded by many awards. 

It won the Best Animated Short Film Award at the Ecozine Film Festival in Spain, the Best Documentary Award at the French festival Le Réel en vue Festival, where he also won the Special Mention of Young Audiences. It also won an award at the O!PLA Animation Festival in Poland.

Once There Was a Sea…  is a story about the Aral Sea. Most of the changes in climate and landscape in the area of the Aral Sea are the outcomes of one of the worst man-made eco-catastrophes in human history. The Aral Sea is dying. The idea of the film Once There Was a Sea… came to mind of director Joanna Kozuch during her train trips through the region of Middle Asia in 2008 and 2014. The film is inspired by the place on the borders of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and the stories and destinies of the people that she has met when I was exploring the disaster of Aral Sea.

Slovak-Czech co-production film Nightsiren by Tereza Nvotová will be presented to international audiences in theatrical distribution after a successful festival tour.

In Poland, it is brought to cinemas by Velvet Spoon from December 8, in the USA by Breaking Glass Pictures from September 22. Slovak and Czech audience can watch the film on VOD platforms Netflix, KVIFF.tv, DAFILMs or Apple TV+.

Nightsiren, a mystery drama from director Tereza Nvotová, is the story of a young woman, Charlotte, who returns to her native mountain village in search of answers to unanswered questions about her troubled childhood. But when she tries to uncover the truth, the villagers accuse her of witchcraft and murder.

Nightsiren is the second feature film by the director, who made her feature debut with Filthy at the 2017 Rotterdam Film Festival. At the 2017 Czech Film Critics Awards, Filthy won in the Best Film category. 

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, the Slovak Radio in Bratislava hosted the ceremony of the Slovak National Film Awards Sun in the Net for 2022, awarded by the Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA). The award for the Best Animated Film went to our film, the animated feature film Journey to Yourland by Peter Budinský. After the awards for The Kite and Once There Was a Sea…  this is the third award for our company in a row in this cathegory.

Our 3D animated feature film, Journey to Yourland, that is telling the story of ten-year-old Riki, his cheeky new friend Emma and Tidling the monkey as they embark on an adventurous journey to Yourland.

Our ambitious feature film has been presented except USA also at festivals in Croatia, Switzerland, Germany and France and has been worked on by more than fifteen artists and animators from all over Europe, from Ireland to the Czech Republic. Journey to Yourland thus stands out for its sophisticated art style with detailed backgrounds evoking the epic video game feel so appealing to young viewers already looking for something more than “kiddie” animation. The film’s visual concept draws on stop-motion visuals, which inspired the stylization of characters and environments and the creation of textures. However, the visual concept is transferred to a digital environment and the film is animated like a classic CGI 3D film. The uniqueness of the technology lies in the use of the Unity game engine in the finalisation of the film and rendering.

The film was co-produced by plutoon (Slovakia), BFILM.cz (Czech Republic), The Pack (Belgium) and RTVS, supported by the Audiovisual Fund, the State Cinematography Fund, the Belgian screen.brussels fund, the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, the Flemish Film Fund VAF, the MEDIA programme and the Bratislava Region. The international sales agent is Beta Film.

The results of the third Eurimages Project Evaluation Session of 2022 have just been announced. Further to recommendations made by independent experts meeting online, the Executive Committee of the Fund has decided to support 24 feature films, including 4 documentary and 3 animation features, for a total amount of 6.707.000 €.

Among the supported projects is the up-coming film by Arsen A. Ostojić, The Crystal Planet, that our company co-produced and which is being Czech-Croatian-Slovak co-production.
